This past month, the NMAR team welcomed Li Zhi Rieken as an intern focusing on social media and the monthly podcast. Li Zhi is currently a senior at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He is a religion and political science double major and focusing mainly on Christianity and Judaism in contemporary society. Previously, Li Zhi has been a research assistant for the Russia-Ukraine Program at the Eurasia Center. He continues to cover African elections and political polls as the South African correspondent and social media lead for Africa Elects. Li Zhi got involved with NMAR after stumbling across its website and learning about the museum’s goal of opening an exhibit next spring. This internship strongly aligns with Li Zhi’s academic pursuit of, and personal interest in, understanding the intersection of religion and American history and politics. He says he's enjoying being able to explore these subjects outside of the classroom.
Li Zhi has recently been working on drawing up a story arc for the next podcast about the impact of religion on indigenous communities in 19th-century America as well as posting on social media about exciting NMAR updates. He is delighted to continue his work at NMAR and, hopefully, visit its exhibit in the spring of 2025.
